Today is Daylight Savings Time. Many don’t know the history behind daylight savings time. The only thing we know is to set our clocks an hour ahead and we lose an hour of sleep. Daylight savings time was actually first invented in 1895 by a New Zealand scientist by the name of George Vernon Hudson. However, it wasn’t until 1908 in Canada and adopted in the United Kingdom in 1916. That was your history lesson for the day. Congratulations. You made it through.

Daylight savings time means the days are longer, the nights are shorter, and spring is on it’s way. But it also means so much more. For those that suffer from seasonal depression or are at their wits end with the cold weather, daylight savings time is a reminder that spring has sprung or that it will in due time. A proverb states, “No matter how long the winter is, spring is sure to follow.” It’s almost inevitable. Spring is sure to come. Peonies, tulips, hyacinths, and orchids are on the rise and ready to make their debut. The question is….when are you going to make yours?

Spring is a time when growth comes silently, but fiercely. Think about flowers that have been planted seasons before. You wake up one spring morning and without warning, there they are greeting you with the dawn. Despite the harsh and cold winter, planted spring flowers return yearly, as a reminder that the best is yet to come. This should be a constant reminder that winter is but a short time. It’s a season that doesn’t last forever. Whatever your season is, it’s only temporary. During you season, you are growing, changing, and preparing for your next season.

With the spring season comes countless days of rain. But one must be reminded that rain is a necessity, for it refreshes and makes all things new. Not to mention it’s the first sign that the days of big coats, scarves, and heaters are soon coming to an end. We’re just trading our snow boots for rain boots. But just as the spring flowers make their debut after such a long and drudgery winter, it’s only right you do the same. Daylight savings time we spring forward and leap into a new season. When you begin your spring cleaning and trade your winter wardrobe for your spring wardrobe, be sure to take time to spring clean your thought pattern and mindset as well. Let spring 2018 be the season that you get that spring back in your step.
